Volunteers

The Billy Riordan Memorial Trust needs Medical Volunteers to come and work with us in Cape Maclear.

Are you qualified in any of the following areas:

 

  • Doctor
  • Dentist
  • Nurse
  • Lab Technician
  • Physiotherapist
  • Pharmacist
  • Optometrist
  • Audiologist

 

Could you donate some of your time and effort to with this vital work?

Perhaps you have already retired and are now looking for an opportunity to use your expertise in the developing world ? We are interested in working with you in Malawi.

Volunteers are asked to commit for a minimum of four months. In particularly specialized areas volunteers may work for a shorter period.

MEDICAL STUDENTS

Medical students from Ireland and the U.K. attend each year at the clinic. Their placements range from four to eight weeks. Applications for elective placements can be made to the Trust. Accommodation is provided in the volunteer centre in the village.

G.P. TRAINING SCHEME

The Trust works in conjunction with the National G.P. training scheme in Ireland.
Doctors in their final year of G.P. training may volunteer to spend part of their year in the clinic at Cape Maclear. Placement is for fourteen weeks. Many have availed of this opportunity to work with African patients in their own environment.

Volunteer work in administration/logistics and agriculture/horticulture is also available.
